4th of July Fashion: 3 Looks, 3 Styles
I have to say that the 4th of July is one of my favorite times of the year. Summer is in full swing and there's just something about the colors red, white, and blue paired together. I love it! I always have fun playing with clothes for special occasions and the 4th of July is no exception (check out what I wore last year here). If you're looking for something to wear this Friday to watch fireworks, attend a family BBQ, or just show off your American pride here are three looks to help you gain some inspiration.
I love an outfit with a fun and flirty pinup girl vibe. The 4th of July is the perfect time to be inspired by such a classic look. I kept it casual by pairing a simple red, polka dot, collared shirt with light wash boyfriend jeans. For accessories, all you need are some basic white Converse and a fun head wrap. Headbands like the one shown above are such an essential in my closet. I love this one's nautical print for the 4th. I can see this look paired with a nice red lip to really pull together that retro inspiration. Overall, this outfit will keep you comfy while still maintaining an adorable pinup look.
For those who like a look with a bit of edge this outfit is totally up your alley. Instead of going for full on red, white, and blue this look incorporates just a hint of the patriotic color combo. The white lace shorts contrast with the edgy Rolling Stones tee, giving a touch of femininity to the outfit. The tall gladiator sandals reinforce the rock n' roll vibe while the sunglasses keep the look 4th of July festive.
If you're looking for a look thats a bit more dressy try something like this. A denim dress is still casual and comfy but when paired with bright pops of red the look takes on a more girly vibe. The wedges make the laid back dress look more put together and the fun headband makes this outfit unique and special.
What will you be wearing on the 4th of July?

14 Ways to Revamp your Look for 2014
2014 is finally here and you've probably said to yourself something along the lines of "new year, new me".
If that's the case then it's time to take the next step whether it be big or small. Here are 14 ways to revamp your look for 2014.
1. Work one or more of Spring's new trendy colors into your wardrobe for a fresh vibe. Spring 2014 is all about neutrals, pastels, and brights so you'll have plenty to choose from. Pantone, world-renowned authority on color, recently named their color of the year and other popular colors for Spring 2014. Check out my post about these colors here.
2. Update your makeup whether you make a drastic change or a small one. Usually a nude lip gloss person? Try a bold lip and minimal eye makeup. All about cat eyes? Switch it up and try a smokey eye.
3. Invest in accessories. Purchasing a bunch of accessories is a much less expensive way to update your look. A new bag, scarf, or necklace will make your outfit look completely different. Look at how drastically the simple tee and jeans combo below changes with just a few accessory swaps. For more about the items featured click here.
4. Try a trend that is totally unlike you. Girly girl? Invest is a good leather jacket. Tom boy? Pick up a frilly frock in a super feminine color. There is always a way to make a piece that you usually wouldn't wear work for your style.
5. Update your favorite pair of shoes. Treat yourself to a new pair of boots, heels, or whatever you know you'll wear all the time.
8. Try a new hairstyle. You don't have to do anything drastic. Maybe add a few highlights or get side bangs. You'll look and feel completely different. If worse comes to worse hair grows back.
9. Go out and buy some new nail polish. I don't know about you but when my nails are done I feel so much better. Schedule one day a week to redo your nails. It makes a difference and you'll save money by doing them yourself.
10. Invest in good skin are. Whether you have severe acne or a few breakouts here and there try your best to find a product or multiple products that work for you. If you need help seek the advice of a professional they'll know what's best for you. Everyone is different, a product that works for me and my skin may not do anything for you. Read my review of Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash here.
11. Follow some fashion blogs (hint, hint) and take note of looks you like and don't like. Then think about why you like or dislike them. This will help you figure out a lot about your personal style. Go the extra mile and get a Pinterest account and pin your favorite looks for future inspiration.
12. Try shopping your dad, brother, or boyfriend's wardrobe. Their unworn watch, tie, blazer, or sweater could become an awesome new statement piece for you.
13. Study up! Watch a movie or read a book that's filled with fashion forward inspiration. For fashion books I recommend click here.
14. Own it. Once you've figured out your personal style (if you haven't yet that's ok too) own your look. You're the only you so flaunt what you've got.

Spirit Week
So... this is sort of a random post but I totally forgot to share some pictures from my school's last spirit week. Before a big game (or in this case because of a snow day, before February vacation) we have a pep rally. The week leading up to the pep rally in called "Spirit Week". There are a bunch of fun theme days and last spirit week was my favorite (so far)!
On Disney Day I rocked a pair of Minnie Mouse ears, a flowy red blouse with a big bow, a long pearl necklace, my favorite faux leather jacket, and glossy red lips.

Fabulous Find(s) of the Week
Colorblocked Sheath Dress from Forever21
For some reason this body con dress from Forever21 just screams spring to me. The gorgeous light apricot shade is stunning. The nude panels on the sides and slimming shape of the dress will highlight your best features and give you a waist. For only $22.80 this a perfect to dress for Spring. Buy your very own right here.
Shirred Waist Dresses from Forever21
The dress above from Forever21 is only $24.80 and perfect for any occasion. It has a unique cut that makes styling a cinch. I'm predicting that we will be seeing a lot of lavender this season but you can never go wrong with a LBD. This dress would flatter many body types and could be mixed in with many different pieces and accessories. You could totally make this dress your own whether you purchase it in lavender or black Buy either of these dresses right here.

My Favorite 12 of 2012
2012 was a very significant year for me. I achieved many of the goals I had set for myself, made new friends, started high school (!!!), shared many laughs, and most importantly started Freshmen Fashion. My life changed in so many ways during this year. Hopefully, your year was just as good as mine. I want to wrap up the year by sharing 12 of my favorite things from 2012 with you guys. If you would like, I encourage you to make a set on polyvore and show me your favorite items from 2012 and tag me (@beverlylorraine) in it. I'd love to see what you've been obsessed with this year. Here are my favorites.
Fashion
As I always say "fashion is a part of me" and during this year there was no exception to my motto. In 2012 I believe I better developed my personal style "rocker-chic/glam business/pinup girl influenced/...". Also my love for everything fashion became stronger (I didn't think it was possible) thanks to this blog.
Some of my favorite fashion picks from 2012:
- Denim shirts
I bought a denim shirt from H&M similar to the shirt featured up above at the beginning of the school year and have worn it over 100 times and styled it in so many ways since then. Denim shirts are great because they are so versatile. You can dress them up with statement necklaces or dress them down with scarves and skinny jeans. What I love most about my denim shirt is that it is medium light in color so I can pair it with dark wash skinnies for a modern look.
- Cropped Black Blazer
Also at the beginning of the school year I purchased basic black cropped blazer originally around $40 for $7 at Kohl's. The blazer shown above is very similar to mine. Everyone should own at least one basic blazer. They are comfortable, classy, and can easily dress up any graphic t-shirt or pair of jeans. Although some blazers can be pricey you can find affordable options in fun colors/patterns at stores like Charlotte Russe, Forever21, and H&M. If you buy a nice quality blazer it will last you forever and turn out to be a great investment.
-Wedge Ankle Booties
All throughout 2012 I have been rocking some seriously high wedge booties. My favorites are from the Simply Vera Vera Wang collection for Kohl's. I found them on the clearance rack for more than 50% off. It was an amazing deal. The ones featured in the picture above are very similar. You can buy yourself a pair right here
-Floral/Patterned Scarves
Scarves have been and always will be a high part of my wardrobe. They're an inexpensive way to transform and update any outfit. They're also a great way to add a bright splash of color to punch up your look. This year I've been obsessed with floral and cheetah print scarves. The one shown is from H&M.
Jewelry
-Charm Bracelets
I have been in love with charm bracelets in 2012. I've been wearing them constantly. One of my favorite Christmas gifts was from two of my best friends. They gave me the two beautiful gold Alex and Ani bracelets that are shown in the collage above. I love them! If your reading my loves, thank you very much. :) You can get your very on piece of Alex and Ani jewelry right here.
So ummmm... this was one of the coolest things ever.
Beauty
My favorite beauty products from 2012:
My daily makeup look is always all about my eyes. I rarely wear bold lipstick so most often I like to play up my eyes and eyelashes. I have been using this mascara all year long (I especially love the waterproof version) and it amps up my lash volume, adds length, and overall makes my lashes look super flirty and full. What more could I ask a mascara for?
This primer is very inexpensive (only $1!) and works wonders. I helps keep my eyeshadow last all through the school day and is an overall wonderful product.
- Dark nailpolish
I have been wearing dark nailpolish all throughtout the fall and winter. I love Revlon's nailpolish. Valentine is a great shade of dark red.
Music
Music is one of my many loves. Besides my usual faves (Greenday's new trilogy is awesome) these two albums really stood out to me.
Hot Fuss The Killers
The Killers happen to be one of my new favorite bands that I discovered in 2012. There songs have always been some of my favorites but I guess I never really knew who they were by. Hot Fuss is definitely one of my favorite albums now and "Mr. Brightside" has always been one of my favorite songs. You can buy this CD here.
Light Me Up The Pretty Reckless
I am in love with every single song on this album. I also appreciate Taylor Momsen's love for leather jackets, studs, and knee-high boots. You can buy this CD here.
Movies
I am not a huge movie fan. The only movies that I can watch from start to finish are horror movies or stupid comedies. They are the only genres that will hold my attention and keep me captivated. Ask any of my friends who have ever gone to the movies with me, if I don't find the movie interesting I will always find a way to make fun of it. I'm a pretty harsh critic.
The Perks of being a Wallflower
This movie has got to be one of the best I have ever seen. Everything about it was sheer perfection. Logan Lerman is one of my favorite actors along with Emma Watson. Me and my friend are absolutely obsessed with this movie now. She bought me the book for Christmas and I can't wait to start reading it. The soundtrack ("Come on Eileen" anyone???) is also great. I don't believe that this movie is out on DVD yet but... you can pre-order it right here from Barnes & Noble.
Books
As you may or may not know I love reading fashion related books. Here's a post about some of my favorites.
Style Lauren Conrad
Just an all around great book. I love Lauren Conrad's style. Purchase this book here.
I hope that you all have a very safe New Year's Eve and an extremely happy 2013.
I encourage you to make a set on polyvore and show me your favorite items from 2012 by tagging me (@beverlylorraine) in it.

Fashion: Live it, Breathe it, Read About it
Fashion is a part of who I am. I live it, breathe it, and occasionally read about. Over the past few years I have accumulated a good collection of fashion/style reference books written by some of my favorite industry leaders. What kind of person would I be if I didn't share these little treasures with fellow fashionistas? Magazines are great but sometimes you just need a good well-written fashion book. What a better time than Thanksgiving break to cuddle up with a posh page-turner? Finally have a break off from school so take a few moments and crack open a good 'ol fashion book!
Here are my favorites.
The One Hundred: A Guide to the Pieces Every Stylish Woman Must Own by Nina Garcia
This is the first fashion book that I ever purchased. It includes wonderful illustrations by Ruben Toledo and many interesting fashion history tidbits that you may or may not have previously known.
Classy: Exceptional Advice for the Extremely Modern Lady by Derek Blasberg
This book is exceptionally informational in a very laughable way. Complete with photos of the do's and don'ts of being a lady and inspirational quotes this book is great for anyone who wants to be fashionable and fun but also keep it classy.
The Teen Vogue Handbook by Teen Vogue
An absolute must for anyone who wants a career in the fashion industry! So much is to be learned from the pages of this book about colleges, internships, and what working in the fashion industry truly means. The Teen Vogue Handbook is filled with stories about the industry's leaders and how they got to where they are today.
True Whit: Designing a Life of Style, Beauty, and Fun by Whitney Port with Sheryl Berk
A very relatable book full of relatable stories, how-to's, and suggestions that can be put to good use.
Fashion Inside Out: Daniel V's Guide to How Style Happens from Inspiration to Runway and Beyond by Daniel Vosovic
An interesting and unusual take on how the fashion industry really works.
Style A to Zoe: The Art of Fashion, Beauty, & Everything Glamour by Rachel Zoe with Rose Apodaca
A book on how to live chic and glamorous by one of the world's most glamorous women. Inside you will find tips and tricks of the styling trade, an insiders view on the industry and spectacular illustrations and personal photographs.
Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self by Christian Siriano with Rennie Dyball
A fierce book written by one of the fiercest designers around! This fabulous book will explain how to obtain a distinct personal style and how to rock your signature look.
I hope that you enjoy these books as much as I do and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
