4th of July Fashion: 3 Looks, 3 Styles

I have to say that the 4th of July is one of my favorite times of the year. Summer is in full swing and there's just something about the colors red, white, and blue paired together. I love it! I always have fun playing with clothes for special occasions and the 4th of July is no exception (check out what I wore last year here). If you're looking for something to wear this Friday to watch fireworks, attend a family BBQ, or just show off your American pride here are three looks to help you gain some inspiration.

I love an outfit with a fun and flirty pinup girl vibe. The 4th of July is the perfect time to be inspired by such a classic look. I kept it casual by pairing a simple red, polka dot, collared shirt with light wash boyfriend jeans. For accessories, all you need are some basic white Converse and a fun head wrap. Headbands like the one shown above are such an essential in my closet. I love this one's nautical print for the 4th. I can see this look paired with a nice red lip to really pull together that retro inspiration. Overall, this outfit will keep you comfy while still maintaining an adorable pinup look.

For those who like a look with a bit of edge this outfit is totally up your alley. Instead of going for full on red, white, and blue this look incorporates just a hint of the patriotic color combo. The white lace shorts contrast with the edgy Rolling Stones tee, giving a touch of femininity to the outfit. The tall gladiator sandals reinforce the rock n' roll vibe while the sunglasses keep the look 4th of July festive.

If you're looking for a look thats a bit more dressy try something like this. A denim dress is still casual and comfy but when paired with bright pops of red the look takes on a more girly vibe. The wedges make the laid back dress look more put together and the fun headband makes this outfit unique and special.

What will you be wearing on the 4th of July?

New Year's (Fashion) Resolutions

Don't wait until tomorrow to start conquering your New Year's fashion resolutions... Start tonight!
Here are three last minute looks perfect for New Year's Eve that will help you conquer your fashion fears.

Look #1: Add Some Edge
If your New Year's resolution is to add some edge to your daily look then this is the NYE outfit for you. Shop your wardrobe for a simple black and white graphic tee and a sparkly skirt. In a pinch? Instead of a skirt you could also layer your tee over a sequined dress. Next, accessorize with a boyfriend watch like this one by Marc by Marc Jacobs and some booties with attitude. If you're planning to be out in the cold add some opaque black tights and a faux leather jacket.

Look #2: Add Some Color
Looking to add some color to your wardrobe in 2014? Try this fun look tonight. First, look through your closet and find a dress in a bright color. I love this teal one above from Forever21. Once you have your dress accessorize it with some sparkly black heels and minimal jewelry. It's nice to sparkle on NYE but the key with this look is to keep the focus on the colors and not the bling. Finally, pick a clutch in a contrasting color to add some extra interest to your look.

Look #3: Mixing Patterns
Mixing patterns is not the easiest thing to do. In order to be successful pick one and only one type of pattern. For this look I chose floral. Another important factor is to keep the color palettes similar. For the base of this look choose a floral top and skirt. To pull the look together layer a black blazer on top and cinch your waist with a nude belt. Matching nude shoes and very simple earrings like these by Marc by Marc Jacobs finish off the look. Don't overdo it with accessories. Keep it simple for this chic and feminine look.

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year's Eve!

My Recent Obsession: F21 Bats & Cats Collection

Studded Batman™ Sweater, $27.80 & F6054 Round Wings Sunglasses$5.80, both Forever21.

I was surfing through Forever21's website when I stumbled upon their new Bats & Cats Collection, a fun assortment of edgy Batman and Catwoman inspired clothing and accessories.

There are so many things I love about this collection.

1. Alright, don't even get me started on the hair and makeup. It is perfection. I am completely and utterly obsessed with this model's bright blonde hair and deep burgundy lips. Her flicked out eyeliner fits the Catwoman inspiration to a T. I think I'm going to have to give this look a try for fall.

2. The abundance of studs and graphic prints - I don't know what it is but I am loving the prints and patterns in this collection. They're bold and edgy and the studs just amplify the rocker vibe.

3. The accessories are great statement pieces on their own. If you don't want a full on batty or catty look this collection has interesting pieces of jewelry, cool headpieces, and hats that will add a tiny touch of superhero or villain kapow! to your look.

Gingham Style

Model on left is wearing a Button-Down Gingham-Print Top from Macy's Marilyn Monroe Collection. Model on right is wear an Essential Gingham Shirt from Forever21.
For Spring I've been noticing lot of gingham-prints especially in pastel colors. This classic print can be dressed up or dressed down and goes with almost anyone's style. Make it sassy by tying a knot and wearing it with white jeans and wedges or make it preppy with a blazer, tailored shorts, and ballet flats. The styling is all up to you. The classic gingham print shirt can be worn so many ways. It is definitely worth adding to your closet because it will never go out of fashion.

I'm With Cupid Racerback Tank from Victoria's Secret
In the spirit of Valentine's Day this week's fabulous find is a cute racerback tank top from Victoria's Secret's Valentine's Day Collection. What I love about this tank is how perfect it is for layering. It would be great for a Valentine's Day girls night out or to wear to school on V-day. Pair it with a distressed, cropped denim jacket, black skinny jeans, and a pair of converse sneaker for a playful, edgy look. Buy one of these adorable tanks here

3 Valentine's Day Looks Under $100 from H&M

I absolutely love the dressing room feature on H&M's website. It is such a great tool for me to use to share fun looks with you guys. I have shared a few outfits using this tool before but, today I decided to share three looks under $100 that would be perfect for Valentine's Day.

School Day - from H&M

I love this look because it is so comfortable without being sloppy looking. The black skinny jeans are classy and super cute paired with a pink shirt and polka dot flats. The silver bracelets add a touch of sparkle and the denim vest adds interest and some edge. A messy bun and, smokey eye makeup, and nude lips add to this overall edgy look.

Girls' Night Out - from H&M

PRODUCTS IN THIS LOOK:

ShoesSuper Skinny Super Low JeansTopNecklaceClutchwww.hm.com
This look would be perfect for a night out with your friends on Valentine's Day. The lace top is feminine and the dark wash skinny jeans are dressier than a pair of light wash ones. The flats are stylish and a more comfortable option than heels. The spiked necklace adds edge and the clutch is big enough to fit all your essentials without getting in the way of having fun. A messy bun and hot pink lips are fun and festive touches.

Dinner Date - from H&M
http://www.hm.com/us/s/04EILB

PRODUCTS IN THIS LOOK:

2-pack Tights 40 DenierPumpsDressBeltDenim Jacketwww.hm.com

This outfit is more of a formal look but definitely not over the top. The black tights matched with black high heels will lengthen legs and slim you out. The color of the dress is the perfect hue for a Valentine's Day dinner. I added a skinny leopard print belt to highlight the waist and add a little bit of personality. The denim jacket will keep you warm and will also keep the look casual. Top it off with bouncy curls and red lips for a lovely V-Day dinner date look.

Fabulous Find(s) of the Week

Colorblocked Sheath Dress from Forever21

For some reason this body con dress from Forever21 just screams spring to me. The gorgeous light apricot shade is stunning. The nude panels on the sides and slimming shape of the dress will highlight your best features and give you a waist. For only $22.80 this a perfect to dress for Spring. Buy your very own right here.

Shirred Waist Dresses from Forever21

The dress above from Forever21 is only $24.80 and perfect for any occasion. It has a unique cut that makes styling a cinch. I'm predicting that we will be seeing a lot of lavender this season but you can never go wrong with a LBD. This dress would  flatter many body types and could be mixed in with many different pieces and accessories. You could totally make this dress your own whether you purchase it in lavender or black  Buy either of these dresses right here.

Celebrity Homecoming Inspiration

It's that time of year again. Brisk weather, Halloween, football games, and homecoming of course! If you plan on attending a homecoming dance this season don't leave finding the perfect dress to the last minute! With all your back to school events and plans this dance will spring up on you fast. No worries my loves, it's time to take some inspiration from the stars.

Edgy- If you have an edgy way of dressing like myself a great celebrity to look to for fashion inspiration is Emma Watson. This former Harry Potter star always seems to get it right and land herself on the best dressed list. She has an effortless vibe to her and seems to always dress for fashion. Emma's look is great for homecoming because it's dressy and also very unique. I highly doubt that anyone else will be wearing the same dre as you if you take inspiration for her.

Girlie- For those of you who like a girlie look Selena Gomez serves as a great inspiration. Selena Gomez always manages to look girly, young, and fresh at the same time. You'll rarely see her on the worst dressed list. What I love most about this young fashionista is her fearlessness when it comes to fashion risks. She's not afraid to wear a daring dress and when she does she usually looks fabulous.

No matter what style look you choose to wear to homecoming this year make sure to keep your look classy. If your skirt is on the shorter side make sure your top is more conservative and vice versa. Stay true to yourself and do not over accessorize. A few sparkly touches, a great pair of reasonable heels, and a sensible clutch are all you need. Most of all make sure that you are able to dance in your outfit and most of all have fun!

Back to School Essentials: Chic Shoes

Shoe shopping goes hand in hand with school shopping. You can't have a cute outfit without an adorable pair of shoes to top it off! Here are my favorite back to school shoe styles that when worn will insure that your tootsies look just as fab as you do!

1.) Ballet Flats - Flats are great for any occasion. You can dress them up or dress them down. An added bonus is that they are super comfy and easy to walk in. You're feet won't be killing by the end of the school day. The leopard print ones are ideal for adding a bit of edge to any boring outfit. The snakeskin ones would be great for adding a bit of personality to a classic or conservative look. Finally, the pink ones with the super cute bow detail would go perfectly with a girly sweater, pearls, and distressed jeans.

2.) Boots - Boots are a huge staple in my wardrobe. My favorites are a broken in pair of Simply Vera by Vera Wang boots that I got for $20 on clearance at Kohl's. It was SUCH a great deal. I also have a pair of studded black ankle booties that I got for $5 (also on clearance) at Forever21. Boots are great for any season but I love wearing them in the fall with skinny jeans, a flowy blouse, and a tailored blazer. I love the floral combat boots in the photo above you could totally rock 'em with any style. The black ones are more edgy while the brown ones are most classic.

3.) Wedges - I don't really think high heels are appropriate for school. I prefer a great pair of wedges. They are more comfortable and you are less likely to fall in them (take it from me, a self-proclaimed klutz). I wish I owned the black lace-up ones and the floral ones are so pretty. The hot pink ones at the top would look great with a monochromatic look for an awesome pop of color.

4.) Oxfords - These menswear inspired shoes are a great alternative to a sneaker. I do not own a pair but I am in the market for some cheetah print ones. This style of shoe adds an unexpected "cool-girl" vibe to a casual v-neck and jeans ensemble. I especially love the the black oxfords with the neon pink sole.

All-in-all go for what your comfortable with and like when it comes to shoes. If you think you'll feel like a fish out of water in 5 inch wedges or stilettos then don't wear them. If you feel uncomfortable in your shoes it will show and people will question your footwear choice just like you. On the other hand if you know you'll look great in  wedges or heels and are going to walk down the halls in confidence that will read too. Please reserve your Ugg boots for around the house only. Beware: If you plan to purchase a dangerously cute pair of shoes be prepared to be asked "Where did you get those?".

My Recent Obsession: Coco Rocha in Diesel Fall 2012 Campaign

Diesel isn't a brand that I usually follow but recently while reading the August issue of InStyle magazine I came across the Diesel Fall 2012 ad campaign. This campaign features the lovely Coco Rocha whom I happen to be a huge fan of. I loved everything about the campaign images by Steven Meisel. The edgy styling was amazing. Everything was perfect from the cuffed distressed jeans to the menswear inspiration. The shoes are to die for and the studded belt and fabulous blazer are pieces I wish were in my closet right now. I am also in love with the hair, makeup (that red lip completes the whole look), and nails. Overall best campaign images I've seen in a while. They will certainly serve as inspiration as I shop for back-to-school. I may have just found a new brand to watch out for every time I open up a magazine.

Tell me what you think about the styling in a comment.

Back to School Essentials: Trendy Denim

Jeans are always a huge back-to-school must have, but this year the stores are carrying a bit more than the usual  blue hue. Turn your back-to-school wardrobe up a notch or two with some seriously awesome denim trends. Here are some of the jean styles I'll be rocking in the halls this year:

Printed: From cheetah to snakeskin to floral, a pair of printed jeans can easily up the edginess of your outfit. Keep the rest of your look classic (basic t-shirts, simple blouses, and flats) and you'll look awesome.

Distressed (ripped-up): The ripped jeans look is still going strong but make sure to keep the rest of your look fresh (floral shirts, lace and easy pieces) and please refrain from making your jeans look unintentional. A few rips here and there is fine but giant holes all over the jeans is NOT a cute look. Trust me. I'm thinking or styling last season's distressed jeans with lace tights underneath.

Brights & Jewel Tones: Bright red, blue, teal, and purple jeans can look so classy when styled the right way. I wear my electric blue skinnies with a classy white button-up and chic boots. You can also try color blocking. Magenta skinny jeans with a detailed teal top would be ultra glam.

Pastels: Keep 'em feminine or rock 'em out. These girlie jeans would look super cute with lace and floral print tops or you can style them with rocker pieces like graphic t-shirts, leather jackets, and combat boots. Either way these jeans are one of my favorite styles. Have I mentioned I'm a bit obsessed with pastels?!

The denim trends don't just stop at unique jeans. Denim shirts, skirts, and bustiers are also something to look into this season.

Don't let all these fabulous trends distract you from picking up a few classics. A great pair of regular 'ol blue jeans is always a must. Black and grey jeans are also good to have in your wardrobe too. They are versatile and always in style.
Happy denim shopping!
