Must Have of the Week: Gold iPod Shuffle

This week's must have isn't a piece of clothing or a pair of shoes. Nope! It's this little guy.

About a week ago, after days of contemplating, I made the decision to purchase a gold iPod shuffle from the Apple store for $49, an item that many probably haven't given a thought for years, since purchasing their multi-functional phones.

With a smart phone that can hold thousands of songs, why would someone need this itsy-bitsy music player? Let me tell you.

Soon, I will be traveling with my school to Europe and I wanted a device other than my phone to play music on, as not to exhaust my phone's battery. At the same time, I didn't want to spend the amount of money that it would cost to buy a brand new phone on something I might not use everyday. To me, that just wasn't logical.

After I made the decision that I was in the market for a new music playing device, I came to the conclusion that I would prefer it to be small, making it perfect for packing in my carry-on. These few factors led me to the iPod Shuffle.

Style wise, I chose the gold because I found it to be the most chic option. Engraving on the back was free so I chose to have "Carpe Diem MMXVI" imprinted as a way of memorializing my upcoming trip.

All in all, the iPod shuffle might not be for everyone, but for the purpose of travel I think it will be great. I have only had it for a few days now and I'm already in love. Its functions are fairly basic but for a long flight it will be perfect for me.

Must Have of the Week: Madewell Denim Popover Shirt

It's safe to say I have Spring Fever. Here in Massachusetts we've been experiencing some unseasonably warm weather and it has made me all the more excited for the upcoming change of seasons.

This week's Must Have is a denim popover shirt from my new favorite shop, Madewell.

I first fell in love with the top online while I was checking out their sale items. Originally $78, now $49.99, this top is perfect for spring.

First off, the light wash denim looks crisp and light. Unlike darker denims, which can sometimes read more edgy, the top's color is perfect for a classic meets modern look.

Second, the cut of the top is great. Different than the other denim button-up shirts I own, the popover style of this shirt feels chic and breezy - ideal for springtime.

Love this top as much as I do? You can purchase one here!

Summer Lookbook feat. Warby Parker

The official start of summer is right around the corner. You're most likely going to be spending more and more time outside enjoying the warm weather. With warm weather comes sun, and the sun's harsh rays can be very damaging if the the proper precautionary measures are not taken before stepping out into the nice weather. Wearing a pair of protective sunglasses is extremely important. If you're going to be wearing sunglasses nearly everyday you want them to be good looking, right? Check out the late spring/early summer looks I created below with some of Warby Parker's beautiful glasses.

Sunglasses, Raskin in Polished Gold, Warby Parker. Top, American Eagle. Necklace, LC Lauren Conrad. Watch, Charlotte Russe. Rings, Charlotte Russe. Jeans, Celebrity Pink. Boots, Charlotte Russe.

Sunglasses, Raskin in Jet Silver, Warby Parker. Dress, Forever 21. Jacket, Levi's.

Sunglasses, Boyd in Marbled Charcoal, Warby Parker. Tank, TJ Maxx. Jacket, Aeropostale.

Sunglasses, Madison in Rum Cherry, Warby Parker. Top, Cali Trends.

Sunglasses, Jasper in Marine Slate, Warby Parker. Jacket, Target. Tank, American Rag. Necklace, Forever 21. Jeans, Celebrity Pink. Watch, Aeropostale.

From top to bottom:
Raskin (Jet Silver), Boyd (Marbled Charcoal), Jasper (Marine Slate), Raskin (Polished Gold), & Madison (Rum Cherry)

I was introduced to a brand called Warby Parker a little while ago and when I looked at their website I was instantly intrigued. What I saw was a bunch of sunglasses in a range of different styles, there was something for everyone.

In order to find out what sunglasses were for me I used their wonderful home try on option to see what I liked most. Here are some notes on how my home try on process went.

Basically, the home try on process allows you choose five pairs of glasses that you are interested in for a hands on trial at your own home. After picking your favorite five pairs Warby Parker will send you your glasses for a time period of five days. During those five days you have the chance to give your borrowed glasses a whirl.

The only issue I came across was that one of the pairs I wanted to use in the home try on process was unavailable to me because all the home try on pairs were with other customers at the time. Clearly, people agreed with how much I loved them. With a little patience this problem can be avoided by waiting your turn. Due to the fact that I am not a patient person I just decided to pick a different pair in their place. I was too anxious to wait.

My home try on package was delivered in only three days, they came right on time. When I opened the box I was happy to see five beautiful pairs of very nice quality sunglasses.

My taste when it comes to sunglasses is usually pretty basic and simple. A good pair of aviators or wayfarers is usually what I go for but at the same time I thought the home try on would be an opportunity for me to branch out a little. Because of this I chose both some classic aviators (Raskin) and some more interesting picks as well (Jasper, Boyd, & Madison). Then I created five late spring/early summer looks.

Another great aspect of Warby Parker is that they give back. Warby Parker works with partners in order to provide those in need with glasses. After a pair of glasses is sold, Warby Parker either provides glasses or funding to a non-profit partner. For more information about this program click here. So, when you purchase from Warby Parker you are not only treating yourself to a great pair of glasses but you are also doing your part to better the world.

Overall, I would most definitely recommend Warby Parker to a friend.

*Thank you to Warby Parker for introducing me to their brand & for giving me the opportunity to check out their glasses*

Packing Light for Spring Break

Spring Break is starting for a lot of people tomorrow. If you're lucky enough to be going away for a few days or more you're probably in need of some packing inspiration right about now. Packing light will always be your best option. If you're flying, packing light could save you some money and if you're driving you'll want to make the most out of your car's space.

The best way to accomplish this is by choosing items to take with you that can be worn in multiple ways.

Here are seven looks for you to wear on your Spring Break getaway.

For more about these items click here.
First off, it's all about mixing and matching. As you can see I used a dress as a top and a romper as shorts. Figure out what pieces will be serving more than purpose before taking off for your vacation.

Next, pick both basic items and visually interesting items. The basic white tank, teal shorts, and denim cutoffs are great additions to your vacation wardrobe. They are all easily paired with other pieces and go with both patterns and solids. The printed dress, floral romper, and the Ramones halter are what will provide the outfits with style.

For the outfits without the dress or romper, accessories add character. I chose two large statement necklaces and a big floppy hat. Paired with basics these accessories really standout and make the outfits.

Finally, pick no more than three pairs of shoes. No one is going to care if you wear the same pair of sandals three days straight. A pair of brown sandals, black sandals, and suede booties should suffice. Make sure that the shoes you pick have a fun detail so they'll add some personality to your looks. I love these strappy sandals and cut-out booties.

The moral to the story here is that packing can be a cinch if you pick out multi-functional pieces. Only add the essentials to your suitcase and you'll be good to go!

Have a fun and safe Spring Break!

One Dress, Three Ways

Whether the occasion is casual or formal, a crochet dress can never serve you wrong. This perfect for summer dress from Tory Burch can go festival chic, elegant, or casual with just a few simple accessory changes. It looks beautiful paired with both neutrals and bold colors and work well for all ages. A dress like this would be a wonderful addition to anyone's wardrobe.

What’s your favorite 60 second style?

Sweet Sixteen

So I feel really guilty about not posting anything since February. Things have gotten super busy outside of blogging and I've been trying to stay on top of my school work. Considering the fact that tonight is the first time in forever that I have a small amount of time to myself I figured I would spend it writing. I've been missing Freshmen Fashion and I'm happy to be back at it!

Here's a quick update with what I've been up to.

Last Thursday I turned 16, finally! That same day I went on a field trip with my art class to an art show in Boston and got my learner's permit afterwards.

I spent my Saturday in Boston with my best friend. We got dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, stopped at Mike's Pastry and Pinkberry, and then went on a mini shopping trip at Forever21. We certainly didn't let the rain get in our way.

I spent the rest of my weekend driving with my parents. I think I'm really getting the hang of it.

I would just like to take this time and say that I am very grateful for my loyal friends and family. I'm really lucky and I'm aware of that. I got to spend my birthday with the most important people in my life and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. 16 years isn't a lot when you put it into perspective but in these years, I know its corny, but I've learned many lessons. I've experienced mistakes and successes, losses and wins, but most importantly I've learned so much about myself and my own character and that is what I'm most proud of.

Life is always going to throw you challenges but its how you face them that shows who you truly are. I've had a lot of challenges tossed at me and I know that I will have many more but I can honestly say that I am happy with every conflict that has surfaced in my life. They have all made me a better person and I wouldn't change anything if I could.

I'm not the best at living in the moment but I am trying to take everything in and really enjoy life. I can't do anything about the past and regrets are a waste of energy. I'm happy with who I've become and I hope to continue down the road I'm on now.

Thank you to whoever took a few moment out of their day to read a post on my blog. I'm very thankful for you.

Continue to be who you are and do what you love.

These 16 years have been great and I can't wait to see what's ahead.

Must Have of the Week: American Eagle Jumpsuit

Springtime is almost here... maybe. I know that's hard to believe when there's still plenty of snow on the ground. I don't know about you but I've been obsessing over jumpsuits lately and I want one so bad. I love the boho vibe they give off and I think they'd look great paired with some gold jewelry, a leather jacket, and a pair of wedges. Unfortunately, I haven't found the perfect jumpsuit for me yet but I do love this one from American Eagle. It's chic and casual at the same time and I think the pattern is great. I'm looking forward to stopping into AE and trying it on!

The Bethany Mota Spring Collection to Make Its Debut

Bethany Mota, you may know her as Macbarbie07, is only eighteen-years-old but she's living out every teenage girl's dream (well, at least mine). She's the designer of her very own fashion collection in partnership with the huge American retailer, Aéropostale.

It all started when she was thirteen-years-old and made her very first YouTube video as an outlet to escape bullying. Since Mota’s beginning in YouTube’s famous beauty community a lot has changed.

Flash forward to now. Mota has over 4 million YouTube subscribers, more than 1 million Twitter followers, and over 2 million Instagram followers. She’s a social media celebrity.

Not everyone knows who Mota, the beauty and fashion guru, is but huge companies have taken notice of her and her videos. On December 8, 2013 Aéropostale launched its brand new Bethany Mota Collection. This collection was designed by Mota along with Aéropostale’s design team.

The line was inspired by Mota’s own personal Californian style (think beanies, graphic tees, and crop tops) and her many fans who all seem to love the new clothes.

Like other celebs Mota has a nickname for her beloved viewers and fans, Motavators. Many of these fans have been wearing their MOTAVATOR t-shirts in support of their favorite YouTube sensation and her new endeavor.

The launch of Mota’s first collection for Aéropostale was so successful that her Spring Collection will be making its debut shortly. There is an option on Aéropostale’s website where fans can unlock outfits from the Spring lookbook before they are released by tweeting the hashtag #MOREMOTA. The first look is already 97% unlocked (according to my last refresh) and will most likely be open for viewing by the end of the day.

Judging by Mota’s winter pieces, the Spring Collection will most likely include floral patterns, skater skirts, feminine details, animal motifs, and graphic tees. Overall buyers can expect fun, wearable, and most of all affordable fashion from this YouTube fashion and beauty superstar.

Here are some of my favorite picks from The Bethany Mota Winter Collection.

14 Ways to Revamp your Look for 2014

2014 is finally here and you've probably said to yourself something along the lines of "new year, new me".

If that's the case then it's time to take the next step whether it be big or small. Here are 14 ways to revamp your look for 2014.

1. Work one or more of Spring's new trendy colors into your wardrobe for a fresh vibe. Spring 2014 is all about neutrals, pastels, and brights so you'll have plenty to choose from. Pantone, world-renowned authority on color, recently named their color of the year and other popular colors for Spring 2014. Check out my post about these colors here.

2. Update your makeup whether you make a drastic change or a small one. Usually a nude lip gloss person? Try a bold lip and minimal eye makeup. All about cat eyes? Switch it up and try a smokey eye.

3. Invest in accessories. Purchasing a bunch of accessories is a much less expensive way to update your look. A new bag, scarf, or necklace will make your outfit look completely different. Look at how drastically the simple tee and jeans combo below changes with just a few accessory swaps. For more about the items featured click here.

4. Try a trend that is totally unlike you. Girly girl? Invest is a good leather jacket. Tom boy? Pick up a frilly frock in a super feminine color. There is always a way to make a piece that you usually wouldn't wear work for your style.

5. Update your favorite pair of shoes. Treat yourself to a new pair of boots, heels, or whatever you know you'll wear all the time.

6. Find your signature fragrance. I love Hailey by Aeropostale.

7. Reinvent something you never wear. Maybe try adding some studs or other embellishment.

8. Try a new hairstyle. You don't have to do anything drastic. Maybe add a few highlights or get side bangs. You'll look and feel completely different. If worse comes to worse hair grows back.

9. Go out and buy some new nail polish. I don't know about you but when my nails are done I feel so much better. Schedule one day a week to redo your nails. It makes a difference and you'll save money by doing them yourself.

10.  Invest in good skin are. Whether you have severe acne or a few breakouts here and there try your best to find a product or multiple products that work for you. If you need help seek the advice of a professional they'll know what's best for you. Everyone is different, a product that works for me and my skin may not do anything for you. Read my review of Neutrogena's Oil-Free Acne Wash here.

11. Follow some fashion blogs (hint, hint) and take note of looks you like and don't like. Then think about why you like or dislike them. This will help you figure out a lot about your personal style. Go the extra mile and get a Pinterest account and pin your favorite looks for future inspiration.

12. Try shopping your dad, brother, or boyfriend's wardrobe. Their unworn watch, tie, blazer, or sweater could become an awesome new statement piece for you.

13. Study up! Watch a movie or read a book that's filled with fashion forward inspiration. For fashion books I recommend click here

14. Own it. Once you've figured out your personal style (if you haven't yet that's ok too) own your look. You're the only you so flaunt what you've got.

Happy 2014!

Spring Getaway

Sometimes packing can be such a chore. Especially when you have a tendency to over-pack like me. I decided to challenge myself with creating ten different looks that would be perfect for a fun spring getaway.
1.  Lacquered Link Necklace, Forever21. 2. Spiked Faux Leather Collar, Forever21. 3. Scalloped Cutout Belt, Forever21. 4. Tucker Flat, Steve Madden. 5. Beaded Feather Charm Necklace, Forever21. 6. Denim Shirt, H&M. 7. Polka Dot Tie-Front Sleeveless Woven Shirt, Aeropostale. 8. Crisscross Crop Top, Forever21. 9. Nautical Button Sailor Shorts, Forever21. 10.  High-Waisted Lace Shorts, Forever21. 11. Pleather T-Strap Cork Wedge Sandal, Charlotte Russe. 12. Dress, H&M.

For my "spring getaway" looks I decided to use pieces that had character but were still versatile. These pieces might not normally be characterized as basics but I thought that they had lots of potential when it came to making outfits. Here are the looks that I made:

The looks I created would be perfect for a range of events. Some are dressy whereas others are really laid-back and casual.  I  loved was how affordable all of the pieces I used are. This shows that you can wear one piece of clothing multiple ways and get the most out of your money.

I hope this gave you some ideas on what to pack the next time you go away. Some times less really is more!

Pretty Random

This is what happens when I get bored.
I draw on napkins.
And drink bottled water.

Does any one else think its strange that the water bottle clearly states that it has zero calories? I guess I would just assume that water has no calories but maybe I'm wrong.

Gingham Style

Model on left is wearing a Button-Down Gingham-Print Top from Macy's Marilyn Monroe Collection. Model on right is wear an Essential Gingham Shirt from Forever21.
For Spring I've been noticing lot of gingham-prints especially in pastel colors. This classic print can be dressed up or dressed down and goes with almost anyone's style. Make it sassy by tying a knot and wearing it with white jeans and wedges or make it preppy with a blazer, tailored shorts, and ballet flats. The styling is all up to you. The classic gingham print shirt can be worn so many ways. It is definitely worth adding to your closet because it will never go out of fashion.
