Game Day Style

Fall is almost here and with fall comes football season. Get ready to support your favorite team in style by wearing this simple and chic look, perfect for game day.

Start off with your favorite team's jersey, I chose this Patriots one from Fanatics. For a bit of added warmth, layer your go-to denim jacket over the jersey and pair with dark wash jeans. As for accessories you can choose any that you'd like. I picked a pair of Steve Madden booties and a cranberry beanie to keep the look both stylish and comfortable. For a touch of something special, sport a large silver watch and deep red lipstick.

This look is casual and comfy but still feminine and chic. You can easily substitute your team's colors and jersey to make the look more personal to you.

Go Patriots!

Must Have of the Week: Spiral Bobby Pins

This week I've been loving spiral bobby pins. I've been wearing my hair up in a messy bun a lot lately and regular bobby pins just weren't cutting it. While at the store I picked up a pack of spiral bobby pins thinking I'd give them a try. They worked even better than I had expected them to. They make my messy bun feel secure and they're virtually effortless to use. All you have to do is create the hairstyle of your choice and then twist the pins in, ta-da! your hair is ready for the day.

My Summer Must Haves: All You Need for the Perfect Summer Look

Summer is in full swing and I'm loving it. The nice, sunny, weather has me in the best mood and I'm happy to share some of my favorite new and old items that I've been obsessed with of the late. These items will have you staying cool, bronzed, and summer ready.

WHITE FADED GLORY SANDALS

I recently picked these sandals up at Walmart and they've already paid for themselves. I've worn them nearly everyday since I bought them. They go with everything. I love the crisp white and silver details for summer.

BANDANAS

Bandanas are my go to accessory all year round but even more so in the summer. They instantly add a boost of color to any look and they are perfect for keeping your hair out of your face. I love tying one into a headband with a ponytail or curled hair. They make for a retro, pinup vibe that I love.

CHARLOTTE RUSSE MIRRORED SUNGLASSES

Ever since I bought these sunglasses at Charlotte Russe I've been seeing colorful mirrored glasses everywhere. I love these ones because of their white frames and purple, blue, and green lenses. They go with a ton of my warm weather wardrobe and whenever I put them on I feel a tad bit more summery.

JERGENS NATURAL GLOW 3 DAYS TO GLOW

I'm pretty pale and usually I'm not one to sit outside and tan. In order to add a bit of color to my skin I tried out Jergens gradual tanner. Although this tanner can be a bit streaky if you don't apply it carefully, when you are careful and neat it gives you nice natural color. I did not experience any orange color. I do prefer this product better with a bit of a real tan underneath. It looks more even that way.

HAWAIIAN TROPIC SHIMMER EFFECT SUNSCREEN SPF 8

This sunscreen isn't the best for everyday use (for that you'd probably want a higher SPF) but for me this is perfect for a quick sunbathing session. I like the shimmery effect it gives my skin and it smells great for a sunscreen.

COVERGIRL CG SMOOTHERS BB CREAM

This is the perfect replacement for foundation during the Summer. It is much lighter, has pretty good coverage, and also has just enough SPF for everyday running around. I love this stuff and have been using it much more frequently since Summer started.

NYX MATTE BRONZER

In the summertime I'm all about a little extra bronze. When it comes to finding a good bronzer there is always something I struggle with, the glitter or shimmer content. This matte bronzer is perfect for a natural look. It's completely sparkle free and a little bit goes a long way.

SINFUL COLORS NAIL POLISH

In the summer I love either a good pastel nail polish or something bright. These two shades from Sinful Colors are my favorites, Tempest (purple) and Bikini (pink). I'm currently rocking Tempest.

What are some of your summer essentials?

Must Have of the Week: Forever 21 Necklace

During the Summer I usually don't wear a lot of jewelry. My everyday heart pendant, some simple stud earrings, and the rings I wear all the time is enough for me when the weather is warm. Because of this, I buy way less jewelry during the Summer than any other season. The other day while strolling around Forever 21 I spotted this unique necklace and really liked it. Although it was inexpensive at only $4.80, I chose to pass that day but when I saw it for a second time at another Forever 21 (and liked it just as much) I chose to buy it. Turns out, I actually love this necklace for Summer. It has plenty of sparkle but it is still light enough for hot weather. I love it!

4th of July Fashion: 3 Looks, 3 Styles

I have to say that the 4th of July is one of my favorite times of the year. Summer is in full swing and there's just something about the colors red, white, and blue paired together. I love it! I always have fun playing with clothes for special occasions and the 4th of July is no exception (check out what I wore last year here). If you're looking for something to wear this Friday to watch fireworks, attend a family BBQ, or just show off your American pride here are three looks to help you gain some inspiration.

I love an outfit with a fun and flirty pinup girl vibe. The 4th of July is the perfect time to be inspired by such a classic look. I kept it casual by pairing a simple red, polka dot, collared shirt with light wash boyfriend jeans. For accessories, all you need are some basic white Converse and a fun head wrap. Headbands like the one shown above are such an essential in my closet. I love this one's nautical print for the 4th. I can see this look paired with a nice red lip to really pull together that retro inspiration. Overall, this outfit will keep you comfy while still maintaining an adorable pinup look.

For those who like a look with a bit of edge this outfit is totally up your alley. Instead of going for full on red, white, and blue this look incorporates just a hint of the patriotic color combo. The white lace shorts contrast with the edgy Rolling Stones tee, giving a touch of femininity to the outfit. The tall gladiator sandals reinforce the rock n' roll vibe while the sunglasses keep the look 4th of July festive.

If you're looking for a look thats a bit more dressy try something like this. A denim dress is still casual and comfy but when paired with bright pops of red the look takes on a more girly vibe. The wedges make the laid back dress look more put together and the fun headband makes this outfit unique and special.

What will you be wearing on the 4th of July?

Must Have of the Week: American Eagle Tanks

I don't know about you guys but it has been HOT out where I live. Thanks to a recent mall visit I have found a fashionable and affordable solution, these fun and bright tanks from American Eagle. Don't judge me but I bought nearly every color and pattern these tanks come in. They're just too perfect. I like their unique high neckline, light material, and summer ready prints. My favorite is white with a purple, green, and blue floral graphic (shown above). The fact that I only paid $7 for each tank due to the huge sale they were having only sweetens the deal.

Summer Lookbook feat. Warby Parker

The official start of summer is right around the corner. You're most likely going to be spending more and more time outside enjoying the warm weather. With warm weather comes sun, and the sun's harsh rays can be very damaging if the the proper precautionary measures are not taken before stepping out into the nice weather. Wearing a pair of protective sunglasses is extremely important. If you're going to be wearing sunglasses nearly everyday you want them to be good looking, right? Check out the late spring/early summer looks I created below with some of Warby Parker's beautiful glasses.

Sunglasses, Raskin in Polished Gold, Warby Parker. Top, American Eagle. Necklace, LC Lauren Conrad. Watch, Charlotte Russe. Rings, Charlotte Russe. Jeans, Celebrity Pink. Boots, Charlotte Russe.

Sunglasses, Raskin in Jet Silver, Warby Parker. Dress, Forever 21. Jacket, Levi's.

Sunglasses, Boyd in Marbled Charcoal, Warby Parker. Tank, TJ Maxx. Jacket, Aeropostale.

Sunglasses, Madison in Rum Cherry, Warby Parker. Top, Cali Trends.

Sunglasses, Jasper in Marine Slate, Warby Parker. Jacket, Target. Tank, American Rag. Necklace, Forever 21. Jeans, Celebrity Pink. Watch, Aeropostale.

From top to bottom:
Raskin (Jet Silver), Boyd (Marbled Charcoal), Jasper (Marine Slate), Raskin (Polished Gold), & Madison (Rum Cherry)

I was introduced to a brand called Warby Parker a little while ago and when I looked at their website I was instantly intrigued. What I saw was a bunch of sunglasses in a range of different styles, there was something for everyone.

In order to find out what sunglasses were for me I used their wonderful home try on option to see what I liked most. Here are some notes on how my home try on process went.

Basically, the home try on process allows you choose five pairs of glasses that you are interested in for a hands on trial at your own home. After picking your favorite five pairs Warby Parker will send you your glasses for a time period of five days. During those five days you have the chance to give your borrowed glasses a whirl.

The only issue I came across was that one of the pairs I wanted to use in the home try on process was unavailable to me because all the home try on pairs were with other customers at the time. Clearly, people agreed with how much I loved them. With a little patience this problem can be avoided by waiting your turn. Due to the fact that I am not a patient person I just decided to pick a different pair in their place. I was too anxious to wait.

My home try on package was delivered in only three days, they came right on time. When I opened the box I was happy to see five beautiful pairs of very nice quality sunglasses.

My taste when it comes to sunglasses is usually pretty basic and simple. A good pair of aviators or wayfarers is usually what I go for but at the same time I thought the home try on would be an opportunity for me to branch out a little. Because of this I chose both some classic aviators (Raskin) and some more interesting picks as well (Jasper, Boyd, & Madison). Then I created five late spring/early summer looks.

Another great aspect of Warby Parker is that they give back. Warby Parker works with partners in order to provide those in need with glasses. After a pair of glasses is sold, Warby Parker either provides glasses or funding to a non-profit partner. For more information about this program click here. So, when you purchase from Warby Parker you are not only treating yourself to a great pair of glasses but you are also doing your part to better the world.

Overall, I would most definitely recommend Warby Parker to a friend.

For more information about any of the details mentioned click here to visit their website.

Must Have of the Week: Steve Madden Sandals

These Steve Madden sandals are perfect for the upcoming warm months. They can go casual or dressy depending on what they're styled with. Their neutral tan color makes them very easy to pair with other clothing in your closet. The heel is chunky enough where it is still practical for everyday but it will give you the added height like a pair of heels would. These shoes would be a great way to upgrade your favorite summer sandals.

Alexander Wang to Design for H&M

Swedish fashion retailer, H&M is famous for teaming with big name fashion designers such as Stella McCartney, Versace, and Isabel Marant. In November of this year H&M will be adding a new designer to their long list of collaborations, Alexander Wang.

Wang will be the first American designer to create a collection for H&M. Known for his innovative, edgy, and wearable designs, it seems as though Wang is the perfect candidate to partner with everyone's favorite clothing store.

For being only 30 years old, Wang is one of the most successful designers in America. Wang received a huge honor in 2008 when he won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, helping him to progress his collections even further. Another large success came soon after in 2009 when Wang was awarded the CFDA’s Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year Award.

Now Wang is responsible for three different labels. He established Alexander Wang in 2007 and T by Alexander Wang was launched in 2009. In 2012 Wang was named Balenciaga's creative director.

On November 6, 2014 Wang's collection with H&M will be launched. It will include both womenswear, menswear, and accessories. As with most of H&M’s designer collaborations it is expected that Wang’s designs will fly off the shelves.

Packing Light for Spring Break

Spring Break is starting for a lot of people tomorrow. If you're lucky enough to be going away for a few days or more you're probably in need of some packing inspiration right about now. Packing light will always be your best option. If you're flying, packing light could save you some money and if you're driving you'll want to make the most out of your car's space.

The best way to accomplish this is by choosing items to take with you that can be worn in multiple ways.

Here are seven looks for you to wear on your Spring Break getaway.

For more about these items click here.
First off, it's all about mixing and matching. As you can see I used a dress as a top and a romper as shorts. Figure out what pieces will be serving more than purpose before taking off for your vacation.

Next, pick both basic items and visually interesting items. The basic white tank, teal shorts, and denim cutoffs are great additions to your vacation wardrobe. They are all easily paired with other pieces and go with both patterns and solids. The printed dress, floral romper, and the Ramones halter are what will provide the outfits with style.

For the outfits without the dress or romper, accessories add character. I chose two large statement necklaces and a big floppy hat. Paired with basics these accessories really standout and make the outfits.

Finally, pick no more than three pairs of shoes. No one is going to care if you wear the same pair of sandals three days straight. A pair of brown sandals, black sandals, and suede booties should suffice. Make sure that the shoes you pick have a fun detail so they'll add some personality to your looks. I love these strappy sandals and cut-out booties.

The moral to the story here is that packing can be a cinch if you pick out multi-functional pieces. Only add the essentials to your suitcase and you'll be good to go!

Have a fun and safe Spring Break!

Must Have of the Week: Red Sox Hat

Baseball season is in full swing and winter is coming to a close. Fenway's season opener was last Friday so I feel as though a Red Sox hat would be an appropriate must have this week. I have been wanting this exact hat for so long. A snapback is the perfect replacement for winter's beanies. First off, they're super cute and secondly, they're perfect for hiding bad hair days. I love this one because it will go with a good portion of my wardrobe and its a stylish way to rep my beloved Boston.

Represent you favorite baseball team (as long as its not the Yankees, just kidding) with a stylish snapback.
You can buy this one here.

Ban Bossy

For more about these "boss" picks click here.

“I’m not bossy. I’m the boss,” said singer Beyoncé in a public service announcement sponsored by Lifetime regarding the banning of the word "bossy".

Even though women make up 19% of the United State’s Congress, 5% of Fortune 1,000 CEOs, and 17% of corporate boards, they are still not treated as the equals of men when it comes to leadership and being bosses.

The USA Girl Scouts recently partnered with LeanIn.org, an extension of Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead, a book written by Sheryl Sandberg. This organization is committed to supporting women in a variety of ways when it comes to leadership and helping these women to achieve their goals.

Together these two organizations created Ban Bossy, a public service campaign encouraging people to pledge to ban the use of the word “bossy.”

Many young girls who frequently speak up in class or take initiative feel that they are being judged by their classmates. This feeling of judgment in some cases stems from one little word, “bossy,” a word commonly used by fellow students to describe girls’ want to learn and lead.

The usage of this word usually comes at a young age and stays in the back of girls’ minds all through growing up. In some cases, it holds them back from leadership roles.

On the company’s website, they write, “When a little boy asserts himself he is called a ‘leader.’ Yet when a little girl does the same, she risks being branded ‘bossy.’”

The Ban Bossy campaign along with helping to spread how hurtful of a word “bossy” can be, has also put together informational packets full of tips and some eye-opening facts.

Some of these facts include that by the time they reach middle school girls are 25% less likely to say that they enjoy taking the lead and that girls are less likely to be called on in class and more likely to be interrupted while talking than boys.

Other famous figures and celebrities have taken note along with Beyoncé including fashion designer, Diane von Fürstenberg, actors Jane Lynch and Jennifer Garner, and the United States Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan. Each shared encouraging words for young girls about taking initiative and being strong leaders in the Lifetime public service announcement.

The use of the word “bossy” can be hurtful and can cause girls to shy away from leadership positions and roles that come with large amounts of responsibility.

Being a boss is a positive thing and the word "bossy" shouldn't get in any young female leader's way.

To find out more and to take the pledge go to banbossy.com

Sweet Sixteen

So I feel really guilty about not posting anything since February. Things have gotten super busy outside of blogging and I've been trying to stay on top of my school work. Considering the fact that tonight is the first time in forever that I have a small amount of time to myself I figured I would spend it writing. I've been missing Freshmen Fashion and I'm happy to be back at it!

Here's a quick update with what I've been up to.

Last Thursday I turned 16, finally! That same day I went on a field trip with my art class to an art show in Boston and got my learner's permit afterwards.

I spent my Saturday in Boston with my best friend. We got dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, stopped at Mike's Pastry and Pinkberry, and then went on a mini shopping trip at Forever21. We certainly didn't let the rain get in our way.

I spent the rest of my weekend driving with my parents. I think I'm really getting the hang of it.

I would just like to take this time and say that I am very grateful for my loyal friends and family. I'm really lucky and I'm aware of that. I got to spend my birthday with the most important people in my life and I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. 16 years isn't a lot when you put it into perspective but in these years, I know its corny, but I've learned many lessons. I've experienced mistakes and successes, losses and wins, but most importantly I've learned so much about myself and my own character and that is what I'm most proud of.

Life is always going to throw you challenges but its how you face them that shows who you truly are. I've had a lot of challenges tossed at me and I know that I will have many more but I can honestly say that I am happy with every conflict that has surfaced in my life. They have all made me a better person and I wouldn't change anything if I could.

I'm not the best at living in the moment but I am trying to take everything in and really enjoy life. I can't do anything about the past and regrets are a waste of energy. I'm happy with who I've become and I hope to continue down the road I'm on now.

Thank you to whoever took a few moment out of their day to read a post on my blog. I'm very thankful for you.

Continue to be who you are and do what you love.

These 16 years have been great and I can't wait to see what's ahead.

Must Have of the Week: American Eagle Jumpsuit

Springtime is almost here... maybe. I know that's hard to believe when there's still plenty of snow on the ground. I don't know about you but I've been obsessing over jumpsuits lately and I want one so bad. I love the boho vibe they give off and I think they'd look great paired with some gold jewelry, a leather jacket, and a pair of wedges. Unfortunately, I haven't found the perfect jumpsuit for me yet but I do love this one from American Eagle. It's chic and casual at the same time and I think the pattern is great. I'm looking forward to stopping into AE and trying it on!

Packing Light for February Vacation

For some, today is the start of February break.

A lot of us struggle with packing only the essentials when we go away on vacation (especially myself) and this can be an issue when it comes to traveling. If you're flying you don't want to have to pay for extra luggage and if you're driving you'll have limited space for all your stuff.

To help troubleshoot this common problem I've created 7 outfits made out of only 8 items for a winter vacation.

I know what you're thinking. 8 items can't possibly make a weeks worth of outfits. Don't believe me? Check out these looks.

When it comes to making the most out of what you're packing here's what to look out for.

Neutrals are important - Choose items that are neutral colors. Black, brown, olive, and beige clothing pieces are the easiest to pair with other clothes.

Patterns and graphics add interest - Without the floral dress and graphic crew neck a lot of these looks would be really boring. Don't be afraid to choose some patterned pieces to go with your neutral items too.

Layering is everything - A denim shirt can become a jacket and a dress can become a skirt or a shirt. When you layer your clothes the options are endless. You'll be able to make countless looks out of the same pieces.

Pick the right shoes - Don't bring a pair of shoes that only look good with one or two pieces. Stick to the basics. A pair of black and brown boots is really all you need. They can go casual or dressy.

Whether you're going away or enjoying a stay-cation I hope you have a wonderful February break!

Smells Like Spirit Week

It's Spirit Week at my school. Each day has had  a different theme and students are encouraged to dress accordingly. Today's theme was Time Warp, where you dress like a certain time period. I went for 90's grunge. This style is completely different from what I would normally wear but I actually really loved the final look. Here's the outcome.

Jacket - Dollhouse (similar)
Flannel - Forever21 (similar)
Jeans - Charlotte Russe (similar)
 Boots - Dr Martens
Ring - Kohl's
Beanie - Forever21(similar)

Does your school have Spirit Weeks?
Let me know in a comment!
